STUDENT DIALING INSTRUCTIONS

TYPE OF CALL	INSTRUCTIONS
Local Calls	Dial 9+ 7-Digit number
On Campus to On Campus	Dial 5-Digit number (4-xxxx, 5-xxxx. or 6-xxxx)
Off Campus to On Campus	Dial 7-Digit number (934-xxxx, 975-xxxx, or 996-xxxx)
Long Distance Dialing	On-Campus: Dial 9 + 1 + area code + 7-Digit telephone number
Directory Assistance (All Directory assistance calls have a charge of $.85 (subject to change)	Local: Dial 9 + 1 + 411
BellSouth Operator	Dial 140#
AT&T Operator	Dial 1400#
WorldCom Operator	Dial 90#
Calling Cards (except AT&T's cards that begin with digit= 8)	(Preferred) Dial 9 + 0 + 10-digit number, wait for "gong"; dial calling card number. (Another Option) Dial 14 + 0 + 10-Digit number, wait for "gong"; dial calling card number.
AT&T Calling Card (that begin with digit= 8)	Dial 14 + 0 + 10-digit number, wait for "gong"; dial calling card number (this is the only way to use these proprietayr cards)
Collect/Credit Card Calls	In State: Dial 9 + 0 + (205,256, or 334) + 7-Digit number, wait for tone; enter Credit Card number , or just wait for operator to assist you Out of State: Dial 9 + 0 + (area code) + 7-Digit number; wait for tone; enter Credit Card number , or just wait for operator to assist you

NOTE: All UAB numbers are restricted from receiving collect calls or from charging a call through the operator to a UAB number. You may place collect calls and charge to a third party- off campus.
